Amendment One and It's Meaning

Amendment One

Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment one has a large value of meaning. It protects some of the most important rights to have as a citizen. This amendment means a lot to me, just to know that I have that protection comforts me. I will admit that I don't necessarily use most of the freedoms promised in this amendment, but I know that if I did, I would be protected. Amendment one is all about the protecting of the citizens and their most important rights; which I believe are all of equal value. I also believe that for the most part the government does their best to fully respect these freedoms. To me as a citizen, this amendment is one of the most important ones.

I chose this video because the way that it explains how each phrase works, I agree with. The tone of the video suggests that the answer to the video title "Does The First Amendment Really Protect Speech & Religion?" Is yes, and I fully agree that the answer is yes. I also believe that the government does what needs to be done in certain cases to limit the actuality of these rights and freedoms for safety reasons. I also really like the end of the video which talks about another video regarding if it is legal to record cops, which it is! I think that is very important that the government made a law to protect that right, since catching something on tape can serve as evidence. All in all, this video was the most clear understanding and fully explained my views on the first amendment and how the government works to protect it and us.

I chose this picture because in all honesty, I truly love the media.. Although I don't care much for it, it's always fun to know what's going on in famous people's lives or even just a murder case or political scandal. The freedom of the media is one of the best parts! :)
